Ottawa, March 14, 2017 – Senator Betty Unger from Alberta today announced her support for Andrew Scheer as Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

From Alberta and appointed to the Senate in 2012, Senator Unger was the first woman elected as a senate nominee.

“Today, I proudly announce my support for Andrew Scheer as the next leader of the Conservative Party of Canada,” said Senator Unger. “With solid conservative principles and proven leadership skills Andrew Scheer will unite and make certain our party is strong, united and ready to defeat the Liberals in the 2019 Federal Election.”

Senator Unger continued, “As the former Speaker in the House of Commons and fluently bilingual, Andrew possesses a communication style which allows him to solidly connect with Canadians from all walks of life and in all regions of Canada.”

“I believe my message of real conservatism continues to resonate in all areas of the country. Senator Unger’s support makes for an even stronger team, and I am grateful for that” said Scheer.

Andrew Scheer continues to lead the race with the most caucus support of any leadership candidate. Senator Unger joins 24 MPs, eight Senators, 29 MLAs and MPPs and 12 former MPs supporting Andrew Scheer for Leader of the Conservative Party.
